Zaida E. Lugo is Head of the Industrial Property Prosecution Department. She obtained her Master in Intellectual Property at Franklyn Pierce Law Center, New Hampshire, 1994.
Her practice focuses on trademark management, industrial property prosecution, advertising law, entertainment law, as well as on intellectual property and unfair competition litigation. She is currently working on the draft of an Advertising Law for the Chamber of Representatives of the Dominican Congress. She is an adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property Law at several universities in Santo Domingo, and is actually a member of the INTA’s Academic Subcommittee.
Prominent representative clients include Colgate Palmolive Company ,British American Tobacco Ltd.; BBDO, Mc Cann Erickson, and Partners Ogilvy & Mather.
In 1997-1998 she was appointed advisor to the Technical Ministry of the Presidency in the Dominican Republic for the draft of the Order market Code, that included proposed new rules for Antitrust, Unfair Competition, Industrial Property, Copyright and Consumer Protection. In 2006 helped with the draft of the proponed “Film Law” and in 2007 is working with draft of the Commercial Advertising Law. In 2001 was named as counsel to the Dominican Congress for Program of Assistance in the draft of Ecommerce and Digital Signatures Law OEA/UPD.
Since 1992, has attended and lectured in several professional seminars and conferences in the Dominican Republic. In 2003, acted as President of the Intellectual Property workshop of ABF – ALCA and presented conclusions to all Government delegates. She is the author of the book Advertising and Marketing (a guide to Intellectual Property in the Dominican Republic), and also has written several papers on IPR matters. |
